Event to make aviation history, as there hasn’t been this many P-38s in one location in over 60 years

August 31, 2010 – The California Capital Airshow (CCA) (www.californiacapitalairshow.com) today announced that it will host every flying Lockheed P-38 Lightning remaining in the United States, as well as the pilots and ground crew who flew and cared for these rare aircraft on September 11 and 12, 2010. Drawing the attention and attendance of WWII veterans and their families from all over the United States and of photographers from seven countries, this is truly a historic event.

“The CCA is truly honored and humbled to be hosting such a remarkable event in partnership with Lockheed Martin (www.lockheedmartin.com), the Reno National Championship Air Races (www.airrace.org), the P-38 National Association (www.p38assn.org) and the 475th Fighter Group Historical Foundation,” said Darcy Brewer, executive director of the California Capital Airshow. “We have set out to create an outstanding occasion to showcase the airplane and pay tribute to the designers, manufacturers, maintainers, and the brave aviators who trusted their lives to the ‘Forked-Tailed Devil’.”

There has not been such a gathering of Lightnings in over 60 years, and because of the high operating costs of the aircraft, coupled with the dwindling numbers of men and women originally associated with the P-38, it is very likely that such an event will not happen again.

P-38 pilots, F-35 Lightning II pilots, the Fork-Tail Devil’s organization and up-close and personal access to the P-38s, including ‘Glacier Girl’, ‘23 Skidoo’, ‘Thoughts of Midnight’, ‘Tangerine’, ‘Ruff Stuff’, and Allied Fighters No. 981. Additionally, representatives and displays from Lockheed Martin, the company that designed and built the revolutionary P-38, will also be in attendance and available at the P-38 National Association pavilion.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and the attention it will generate will help provide the means to continue to tell the story of this unique aircraft, while reinforcing its significance as one of the most innovative and important designs in the history of manned flight.

“Each one of these airplanes, and the men associated with them, has a story to tell, and our venture will provide the opportunity for those tales of valor, sacrifice, and heroism to be shared with young and old alike, to make their honor and courage tangible to this generation and those to come. As you well know, sadly, the numbers of these honorable men and women are dwindling at an alarming rate. With over 300 P-38 veterans from WWII planning on attending, this event will ensure that their memory will never be forgotten,” added Brewer.

To sponsor or provide financial support to help defray the costs associated with this opportunity, please contact CCA headquarters at (916) 876-7568.

The Airshow website will be updated regularly with news, attraction information and more. Community members and attendees can also follow the Airshow on Facebook and Twitter (#calcapairshow).

From teaching a little girl to fly to awarding scholarships to youth with aviation dreams, the Airshow is honored to give back to its community

Sacramento, CA – June 25, 2010 – As part of its community relations efforts and overall mission, the California Capital Airshow (CCA) recently fulfilled dreams of several aspiring young aviators throughout the Sacramento region. Yesterday, CCA along with several sponsors fulfilled the dream of 15-year old Carmichael resident, Angela Evans, of one day becoming a pilot. For a majority of her childhood, Angela has been battling illnesses and required to spend a considerable amount of time in the UC Davis Children’s Hospital. Recently diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, in addition to other life threatening illnesses, Angela aspires to be behind the controls of an airplane as pilot-in-command.

“This was truly a joint effort where our community partners came together to make a little girl’s dream come true. To see the sheer excitement on Angela’s face when she stepped out of the plane having never flown in her life was truly moving,” said Darcy Brewer, executive director of the California Capital Airshow. “The Airshow is honored to have the opportunity to show not only Angela, but the community-at-large that wishes really do come true. Our hope is that Angela’s story inspires children of all ages to dream big.”

Additionally, the Airshow recently awarded scholarships to seven college-aged students from the Sacramento region to help assist in their pursuit of aviation, aerospace, aeronautics or related careers. The 2010 scholarship recipients are: Blake Andrus, Peter Blomquist, Jake Daum, Michael McKone, Ana Mendivil, Victor Rice, Da Hyun Shim. Each recipient identified a true passion and timeline for achieving their career goal.

“Many people already know how to fly and are experts at it; I don’t want to be just another pilot, I want to contribute to the industry, give them something they didn’t have before, leave a mark and know that I gave back to the business that inspired so much passion in me,” said Ana Mendivil, future aviation manager.

“Over the past four years, we have awarded more than 65 scholarships to deserving students from our region,” added Brewer. “The California Capital Airshow strives to honor our past while inspiring our future leaders to do great things; with the help of local organizations such as the GenCorp Foundation, our scholarship program helps each of these winners do exactly that.”

To download high resolution photos from Angela’s flight visit http://www.markeloper.com/aviation/angela.html. Other high resolution Airshow photos are available online at http://californiacapitalairshow.com/press/.

Tickets to the 2010 California Capital Airshow at Mather Airport are now available online and can be easily purchased at the Airshow web site, http://www.californiacapitalairshow.com/buytickets.php or at all SAFE Credit Union branch locations.

Sacramento, CA – April 16, 2010 – California Capital Airshow today announced that the F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team will thunder into Sacramento headlining the show on September 11-12, 2010. Captivating audiences at Mather Airport will be the breathtaking F-22 Raptors as well as an array of equally exciting, thrill seeking military jets, world-renowned aerobatic performers and historic aircraft.

“This year’s Airshow is lining up to be the biggest and most thrilling show yet!” said Darcy Brewer, Executive Director of the California Capital Airshow. “Attendees will be impressed by the Raptor’s power, acceleration, and thrust-vectoring capabilities. The Raptor defies the laws of physics and crowds love it, but the show certainly doesn’t stop there. We will have something for everyone and every age – from colorful entertainment and aerobatics soaring overhead to live bands and a Kids Zone with interactive, educational exhibits – it’s going to be an incredible show.”

Most people have never had the honor to see the world’s only operational fifth-generation fighter aircraft, thus the Raptor’s airshow routine leaves a lasting first impression that most people never forget. The demonstration highlights the maneuverability and air dominance of this new fighter engineered by the aviation experts of Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Pratt & Whitney and the US Air Force. Its stealth, speed, agility, precision and situational awareness make it overwhelmingly effective in its combined air-to-air and air-to-ground mission capability. Once audiences see and experience this amazing fighter jet, it will solidify the fact that the United States has truly created a new generation of aircraft.

“It has been my pleasure to work with and support the California Capital Airshow in their efforts to schedule the F-22 Raptor fighter jet for the September 11-12, 2010 show. It will truly be an honor and great opportunity for the audience to see the F-22 and its capabilities in combining speed, agility, precision and raw power,” said Congressman Dan Lungren. “The California Capital Airshow strives to show gratitude for veterans and current military personnel and to inspire and educate youth in our region. Everyone in attendance will feel a sense of pride in this latest accomplishment of the United States as they experience the fighter jet and the magnificent performance it will give. Those who have served their country and young people looking forward to future service will be in awe as they witness the F-22 Raptor demonstration.”

“I am happy that we could be helpful in getting an F-22 Raptor demonstration during this year’s California Capitol Airshow. Each year, thousands of Sacramentans come out to Mather Airfield to see planes and jets show off,” said Congresswoman Doris Matsui. “The F-22 is the world’s most advanced jet. It is able to do aerial acrobatics that previous jet aircraft have never been able to do. I know the crowd will be awed by its performance as well as the professional qualities of the men and women who design, fly, maintain and support these aircraft thereby inspiring our next generation of leaders.”
